A US government official told Reuters the Marshall Islands-flagged vessel was intercepted by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ (IRGC) Naval force at 0905 GMT (0405 ET). Earlier Tuesday, Saudi Arabia-owned television station Al Arabiya said via Twitter that Iran had fired at a US cargo ship and had directed it to the Bandar Abbas port located along Iran’s southern coast. Reports indicate the number of sailors on the seized ship is between 24 and 34.
